English & Reading Workshop with Laura McDanal (for Sept Test)

The English and Reading Workshop will be held on Monday, September 7th, 2015, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  The workshop is designed to emphasize the strategies and content of the English and reading sections only.  The course is structured in a way that is equivalent to the instruction received in 3 to 5 hours of private tutoring.

LOCATION:

Brookview Church
3699 Belmont Road
Birmingham, Alabama 35210

Students will receive slightly more English practice than reading because the explanations for the grammar from the instructor are needed more heavily than the reading comprehension questions, but all reading strategies will be taught and over an hour of practice will be allotted for the reading as well.

IMPORTANT: Students will receive an additional test to take home for practice.  It is very important that they utilize the strategies learned to apply to an additional practice test before the test day.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Math & Science Workshop I with George Mizzell (for Sept Test)

July 28th and 30th, 2015
3:00 to 7:00 PM

Location

Residence Inn
First Floor Conference Room
2725 John Hawkins Parkway (Highway 150)
Hoover AL 35244

The Math and Science Workshop I is for students with a Math and/or Science score on the ACT up to a 25.  This workshop will only have a minor overlap with the math and science covered in our two June ACT Prep Courses.  Students will be given homework to do before the second class.  They will also receive practice tests to work on until the test date.

The focus is to spend more time covering the basic math skills needed to do well on the ACT test.  Our regular review courses are designed to help review concepts that students have already had significant coverage of in school and just need to become familiar with how the ACT presents it and how to work the problems the way the ACT Test expects them to do.  This course will provide students a more in-depth review of fractions, percents, numbers, math terms and algebraic concepts.  We will also cover these geometric topics: lines, angles, triangles, circles and areas.

Science students with find this course more helpful to start with.  We will be covering some basics about science experiments in general and several science concepts that the ACT expects students to know and understand.  Then we will focus on understanding how to read the passages and understand the questions.  This course will not be focused as much on speed, but is intended for students to become more aware of what the ACT expects them to know and how to process the information given in a passage.  We understand that speed is a big issue and we address that in our regular classes.  This workshop is aimed at helping students understand the basics BEFORE we start trying to get them faster.

Math & Science Workshop II with George Mizzell (for Sept Test)

September 4th and 7th, 2015
3:00 to 7:00 PM

First Floor Conference Room
2725 John Hawkins Parkway (Highway 150)
Hoover AL 35244

The Math and Science Workshop II is for students with a Math and/or Science score on the ACT that is 26 or higher.  This workshop will only have a minor overlap with the math and science covered in our ACT Extreme Prep Course.  Students will be given homework to do before the second class.  Students will also get homework to work on before the test date.

The focus is to spend more time covering the math skills needed to do well on the harder problems on the ACT test.  Our regular review courses are designed to help review concepts that students have already had significant coverage of in school and just need to become familiar with how the ACT presents it and how to work the problems the way the ACT Test expects them to do.  This workshop will be focusing on the problems from about 35 – 60 on the ACT Math test and a quick review of Algebra II, statistics and trigonometry concepts as they pertain to the ACT test.

Students with science scores of 26 or higher will prefer to start in this workshop.  These students will already understand how to use a lot of the basic information in a science passage and they really need help on finishing the passages on time.  Most of this class will be spent helping to equip students to move through all of the information quickly and notice the details of how to answer the questions correctly.

Laura and George

We’ve learned that prior to committing to actual practice and instruction, students and parents often have general questions and concerns about the nature of the test, about the productivity of preparation, and about the feasibility of practicing online. We’ve established a video based question/answer segment to help you get started and to help you gain more knowledge about those normal concerns.
